The MUJC is pleased to offer its Professional Development Series which provides participants with creative and practical resources for enhancing professional expertise. These programs are available to staff members from both member and non-member districts. The Professional Development inservices are held online and in the MUJC’s Professional Development Center in New Providence, which consists of two spacious presentation rooms with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment. The inservice programs address all major areas of education and are designed to be practical with hands-on activities and skills directly applicable to the classroom.

Because this screen can be delivered by all (teachers, coaches, nurses, counselors), numerous school districts have moved toward system wide implementation enabling blanket coverage and linking of systems (e.g., schools, first responders, corrections, hospitals/behavioral health, crisis assessment) which foster prevention. This screening tool has the potential to identify at-risk youth before a tragedy occurs. Participants of this workshop will learn how to administer the screening and full versions of the tool, customize the tool and interpret results, indentify which students should have emergency assessment, and ways to streamline triage and care delivery.

Best strategies to help a student reenter the school will be discussed during this online workshop. There has been a significant increase in the prevalence of anxiety and depression among students. School staff struggle to find ways to help students manage their symptoms. Additionally, school personnel have noticed an increase in school avoidance/refusal. This can lead to academic and social challenges. As absences increase, it becomes particularly challenging to motivate the student to attend school. Participants will learn to identify warning signs of school avoidance/refusal to intervene early to minimize increased avoidance.

Best strategies to help a student reenter the school will be discussed during this online workshop. There has been a significant increase in the prevalence of anxiety and depression among students. School staff struggle to find ways to help students manage their symptoms. Additionally, school personnel have noticed an increase in school avoidance/refusal. This can lead to academic and social challenges. As absences increase, it becomes particularly challenging to motivate the student to attend school. Participants will learn to identify warning signs of school avoidance/refusal to intervene early to minimize increased avoidance.
