Speech/Language Therapy
The speech and language program features a multi-model approach to communication delivered in a behavioral approach. This may include the use of oral speech, pictures, written communication, picture exchange, keyboarding, signing, oral motor developmental, and/or augmentative devices. As a component of the DLC educational program, each student receives two 30-minute individual sessions per week and two 30-minute integrated sessions per week. The preschool program receives two 30-minute speech and language consultation sessions per week.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy addresses the functional needs of the student as related to the performance of academics, self care, vocational, and leisure/play skills. Each student receives two 30-minute integrated sessions per week. The preschool program receives two 30-minute occupational therapy consultation sessions per week.
Adaptive Physical Education and Swimming
The adaptive physical education program develops gross motor skills, physical fitness, fundamental movement, and game/leisure skills. Each student receives 90 minutes of adaptive physical education per week. The preschool program receives daily gross motor exercise time. Swimming instruction is provided by school staff at the DLC-Warren swimming pool. Parental permission is needed for a child to participate. If the child has seizures, a physician's note is required for that child to participate in the swimming program.
