Health Services
Health care plans are recommended for students with medical conditions.
A school nurse is located at each DLC. Each nurse provides routine and emergency care for students. Hearing and vision exams are conducted yearly. Scoliosis screening, which is mandated by the New Jersey Health Department, will be conducted for all students over 10 years of age unless otherwise requested by the parent.
A dental screening program may be conducted by the Foundation for Dentistry for the Handicapped. This screening is optional and written permission is needed for your child to participate.
Please report any communicable disease to the school nurse including but not limited to the following: chicken pox, mumps, rubella, measles, german measles, conjunctivitis (pink eye), strep throat, hepatitis, scarlet fever, whooping cough, impetigo, scabies, pediculosis (head lice), or ring worm.

Student Medication

- Medication must be brought to the school nurse in the original container. All medication should be brought to school in a sealed envelope with the child's name and teacher's name clearly marked on the envelope. The envelope should be given to your child's bus driver with instructions to give it to the school staff. A note to the teacher should also be placed in your child's backpack indicating that medication has been sent to school.
- Medication shall only be dispensed by the school nurse.
- Medication, both prescription and over-the-counter, must be accompanied by a physician's order and parental permission authorizing its administration and specifying the conditions for its administration.
- Information for students who are on a regular program of medication must be renewed at the beginning of the school year.
- All medication will be returned to the parent prior to the end of the school year upon expiration of the prescription.
