NEW PROVIDENCE
Spring 2007
Autism Awareness

April is Autism Awareness month. Each year the students of the DLC New Providence work very hard to put together an item to symbolize Autism Awareness. This year the students assembled buttons using our button maker.

Once the buttons are assembled, the students then attach a piece of paper that contains some information about CAN (Cure Autism Now), a non-profit organization dedicated to autism research, and a brief statement about autism.

The buttons are free and are available to staff throughout the building. Any donations received are sent to CAN.

During the entire month of April the buttons are available at the New Providence Library. A display is set up in the children’s portion of the library. The display contains a poster with some information about autism and the CAN organization, and a supply of buttons that are free to the public.

Spring Boutique

The time has arrived for this years Spring Boutique sale. The sale will take place in May.

In the next several weeks the students will be busy preparing the items for the sale.

A catalogue will be created once some sample items have been completed. The catalogue will be distributed approximately one week before the sale.

As in previous sales we will be including some of the items we found to be favorite selections. New items are always included as well.

Some of the items will include our ever popular Autism Awareness key chains featuring a slightly new design, a seasonal outdoor fun pack, and of coarse, some beautiful plants.

Keep your eye out for our catalogue which will be sent home with the students.

Pansies will be included in this years sale

Projects to Help the Community

Throughout the school year the students at the DLC New Providence work on various jobs for different organizations in the area.

For the past several years our students have helped assemble plastic eggs for some local egg hunts.

This year, the students worked very hard assembling eggs for the Alliance Bible Church in Warren New Jersey.

Several hundred eggs arrive in large bins and are not assembled. The first part of the task is to match the eggs by color and size to find the perfect fit. Once each egg is assembled, the students then fill the eggs with candy that was donated to the church by members.

This is an excellent job for our students. Not only is it a great way for the students to help prepare for a local community event, it is a real job that we have had the opportunity to do for the past several years.
